Tips to help reduce your carbon footprint

Internet demands have soared over the years, with more people online than ever before. Our products and services help residents stay connected for their education, work and entertainment needs. Despite more data being used across our network, we continue to adapt our environmental commitments such as switching to 100% renewable energy at our Data Centre, saving an estimated 399 tonnes of CO2 emissions in the first year.

We can all make a difference to the environment, changing to a more sustainable, eco-friendlier lifestyle doesn’t need to be expensive. Check out our tips on how to reduce your digital carbon footprint:

  1. Connect to WiFi instead of using mobile data, but remember to disable it when out and about
  2. Limit unnecessary streaming and turn off videos when finished or leaving a room
  3. Use energy efficient cloud storage platforms like Google and Microsoft
  4. Delete large online files that are not needed to avoid cloud servers using unnecessary energy
  5. Reduce the brightness on monitors and devices from 100% to 70%, or enable automatic brightness settings
  6. Use eco and battery saving modes – not just when the battery is low
  7. Manage your emails regularly and cancel any unwanted email subscriptions to reduce data storage

Here are some other energy saving tips:

  • Remember to unplug electronics that are not in use
  • Turn off the lights when leaving a room
  • Turn down the thermostat by 1 degree
  • Change to energy efficient LED light bulbs
  • Use less water when cooking, cleaning and filling up the kettle
