Trying to connect a smart plug for your lamp, fan, or appliance? Follow these steps to get your plug working with ASK4 WiFi.
The steps to add a smart plug depend on which networks are available in your building.
Which network do you see in your WiFi settings?
I can see "ASK4 Resident"
Step 1 - Power on your smart plug
- Plug the smart plug into a wall socket
- Make sure the plug is switched on and in pairing mode (usually indicated by a flashing LED)
- Check the product manual if you're not sure how to enable pairing
Step 2 - Connect your phone or tablet to ASK4 Resident
Before setting up the smart plug, make sure your phone is connected to ASK4 Resident, the open registration network.
- Go to Settings WiFi
- Select ASK4 Resident
- Wait until it says "Connected"
Enter your personal WiFi passphrase when prompted. This is the passphrase you received when you first signed up - you can also find it in MyAccount at https://myaccount.ask4.com.
Your device is automatically added to your account and is now online.
Step 3 - Finalise the connection
- Reboot the smart plug if needed
- Open the app and repeat the setup
- It should now connect and be fully online
Tips
- Smart plugs often only support 2.4GHz networks – this is available on ASK4 Resident

I can see "ASK4 Wireless" (but not "ASK4 Resident")
Step 1 - Power on your smart plug
- Plug the smart plug into a wall socket
- Make sure the plug is switched on and in pairing mode (usually indicated by a flashing LED)
- Check the product manual if you're not sure how to enable pairing
Step 2 - Connect your phone or tablet to ASK4 Wireless
Before setting up the smart plug, make sure your phone is connected to ASK4 Wireless, the open registration network.
- Go to Settings WiFi
- Select ASK4 Wireless
- Wait until it says "Connected"
- If prompted, complete registration at https://myaccount.ask4.com
Step 3 - Use the manufacturer's app
Open the app that came with your smart plug (e.g. TP-Link Kasa, Tapo, Smart Life, etc.) and follow the setup process:
- Open the app and tap Add Device
- Follow the instructions until prompted to select a WiFi network
- Choose ASK4 Wireless
Your phone will try to share your WiFi credentials with the smart plug. However, most smart plugs can't complete the connection until registered.
Step 4 - Register your smart plug manually
- Once the app attempts connection, go to https://myaccount.ask4.com on your phone or laptop
- Log into your ASK4 account
- Find your smart plug's MAC address
- Go to Add device manually, paste in the MAC address, and click Enable this device
Step 5 - Find the MAC address
Depending on your brand, there are a few ways to locate the MAC address:
- Check the product label or box – many smart plugs print the MAC address directly on the plug or packaging
- In the app – after setup fails, return to your smart plug in the app to view device info or settings
- In your router settings or My Account – look for the device name that matches your smart plug and check its MAC
MAC addresses look like 2C:AA:8E:1F:99:01
Step 6 - Finalise the connection
- Reboot the smart plug if needed
- Open the app and repeat the setup
- It should now connect and be fully online

- Smart plugs often only support 2.4GHz networks – this is available on ASK4 Wireless
