Using an Ethernet cable gives you the most stable and fast connection — ideal for gaming, streaming, or working from home. Follow the steps below to get connected.
Important: Unlike wireless devices, wired devices cannot be detected automatically. You will need to find and register your device's MAC address manually before it can connect to the network.
Step 1 - Find the Ethernet port in your room
If your accommodation offered a wired connection, look for a wall-mounted port that may look like a phone socket but is labelled for internet or has a network symbol.
Ports are often located near desks or beds
Some flats may have multiple ports – only one will be active
Step 2 - Plug in your device
You'll need:
A standard Ethernet cable (Cat5e or Cat6)
-
A device with an Ethernet port (e.g. laptop, desktop, console)
If your device doesn’t have an Ethernet port (like most modern laptops), use a USB-C or Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter
To connect:
Plug one end of the cable into the wall port
Plug the other into your device or adapter
Your device should automatically detect the wired connection
If you have a registered smart phone on your account, you can scan the QR with your phone to add it to your account - simply click already signed up.
Step 3 - Find your device's MAC address
Because wired devices cannot be detected automatically, you need to provide your MAC address when registering. Follow the instructions below for your device type.
Windows PC or Laptop
- Press the Windows key + R, type cmd and press Enter
- In the Command Prompt window, type: ipconfig /all and press Enter
- Look for the section labelled Ethernet adapter
- Your MAC address is listed as Physical Address - it will look like: AC-B4-80-37-3F-0C
Smart TV
- Go to Settings on your Smart TV
- Navigate to Network or About (this varies by brand)
- Look for Wired MAC Address or Ethernet MAC Address
- Note down the address - it will be in the format XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
Games Console
- PlayStation: Go to Settings > Network > View Connection Status - the MAC address is listed there
- Xbox: Go to Settings > General > Network Settings > Advanced Settings - MAC address is shown under Wired MAC
- Nintendo Switch: Go to System Settings > Internet > Connection Status
Tip: Your MAC address is unique to your device's network adapter. Make sure you copy the Ethernet / wired MAC address, not the Wi-Fi address.
