If your Chromebook is connected via Ethernet but you can’t get online, follow these steps to troubleshoot and get connected with ASK4.
Step 1 - Check the physical connection
Ensure the Ethernet cable is plugged securely into the wall port and your Chromebook or adapter
If using a USB-C or USB-A to Ethernet adapter, ensure it’s fully inserted
Try a different Ethernet cable or a different port in the room if available
Step 2 - Restart your Chromebook
Click the time in the bottom-right corner
Select the Power icon
Power it back on and try again
Step 3 - Check for Ethernet connection
Click the time in the bottom-right again
Select the Settings gear
Go to Network
-
Look for Ethernet in the left-hand menu
If it’s listed and says Connected, continue below
If it says Not Connected, try plugging into a different port or restarting
Step 4 - Turn off VPN or extensions
If you're using a VPN or any connection-related Chrome extensions, disable them temporarily
These may block the ASK4 registration page or general internet access
Step 5 - Make sure your device is registered
Log into your ASK4 account
Look for your device under My Devices
If not listed, select Enable this device
Step 6 - Check IP and DNS settings
Go to Settings > Network > Ethernet
Click the arrow icon next to the active Ethernet network
Under Network, ensure Configure IP Address automatically (DHCP) is selected
Under Name servers, select Automatic name servers
Step 7 - Try another device
If another laptop or console works with the same cable and port, the issue may be with your Chromebook’s adapter or network configuration
